If you haven’t heard of Pay Per Click (PPC), it’s really worth spending a little time to find out about this fantastic marketing method, which has revolutionised online advertising and has some major advantages over some of the more traditional marketing methods.
Unfortunately statics show that very few internet users search beyond the first 2 or 3 pages of their chosen search engines results pages - so it is essential that you do everything you can to get your website on these opening pages.
Sadly, depending on the nature of your business, getting to the top of the search engines will be extremely difficult and requires you to have a strategy in place to help you achieve this.
Unlike Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) which can often take a great deal of time and effort to get results, Pay Per Click (PPC) can get your business results within a matter of minutes - assuming you know what you doing of course.
The search engine Google dominates the UK’s market handling around 70% of all searches made on the internet. They are also by far the largest Pay Per Click (PPC) operator.
When you search using Google (using what are known as keywords or strings i.e. “Golf Shoes “) Google returns you two different types of results.
On the left hand side of the page are what are known as their “natural or organic results”. The companies listed have submitted their website listing to Google and through a combination of factors have succeeded in getting listed with them. The key point here is that they haven’t paid to be there. Some will have got there through hard work and good Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Others simply by good fortune.
The other results are listed at the very top of the page (up to 3 results per page, shaded in a cream coloured box) and also down the right hand side/margin of the page (up to 8 results per page) These areas are for “sponsored listings.” In other words, these companies have paid to get there.
The companies listed in these “sponsored” areas will have bid an amount to appear when the search term you used is tapped into Google. The amount they will have paid could have been a few pence to a few pounds, depending on a number of factors. However the companies will only pay this amount if the web user actually clicks on their ad. You only pay for results.
The nice thing about Google Pay Per Click is that not only do you only pay for results -you also have a high degree of control over when and where your ads appear. You can also monitor how successful your ads are and tweak them as necessary.
There is a whole lot more to Google Pay Per Click (PPC) than we can cover on this page alone. Done correctly it is simply a brilliant form of marketing- but if you don’t know what you are doing, you can waste a considerable amount of time and money - even though you can set yourselves daily budgets.
